Furness Advancement

It was a tremendous start to the new Masonic season for Furness Mark No 36 at Barrow in Furness Masonic Hall.
David Shaw, Peter Schofield and Steve Rennie
The evening saw WM Peter Schofield oversee a successful ballot for three candidates with the first of those, David Shaw, then being advanced into the order.

Before getting to the principal business of the evening salutations were given in order to acknowledge the appointment of lodge secretary Kieron Mullan as Provincial Junior Grand Warden. The visitors included amongst their number special representative Stuart Brackstone and fellow Jubilee Mark member Les Preston who was proudly sporting his new badge as a Past Assistant Grand Standard Bearer.

The work of advancing David was shared out between Bill Joughin, Ian Cottam and John Parrott.
They were very ably supported by senior deacon Peter Clafton in his first run out in that position. It was pleasing that David’s proposer Steve Rennie, had a hands role as the junior deacon. In fact everybody played their part well.

When presenting David with the PGM’s letter of welcome Stuart remarked, “It was as a good of ceremony of advancement as you are likely to see.”

Next up for advancement in November will be Furness and South Lakeland group vice chairman Gary Rogerson. He will be followed by the group secretary Alan Pattinson. With the group chairman Peter being in the chair of the lodge they are two quite appropriate advancements for him to preside over.
The new team have started the season in fine style and have set the bar high for the rest of their term of office.
